Dogs are shot en masse in front of children in Ganja
On the night of December 3 to 4, a brutal mass shooting of dogs took place in Ganja again. This was witnessed by a Turkish citizen, who not only filmed what was happening, but also posted on social networks with a comment about his shock at what he saw.
The footage shows Firudin Sadykhov, a well-known freelance employee of the city's police department in Ganja, who is on assignment to shoot dogs. The executive power of Ganja denies its connection with this person; however, Sadykhov does not deny executive power's order fulfilment. Only this time he came up with the idea that he shoots crows, not realizing that shooting with firearms in a populated locality is a crime, and birds are also protected by law like other animals. Sadykhov's name appeared in a pro-government report, where he was mentioned as a "city sanitarian."
However, in the same Ganja, the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, together with the German organization "Tierschutz Entwicklungshilife e.v.", held a demonstration mass action on sterilization, inventory and treatment of stray dogs. Students of the veterinary faculty of the Agricultural University and even the head of the executive power Niyazi Bayramov took part in the action. They observed the work of specialists from Germany, Austria and Russia. The action was covered in a government agency.
In an interview with Turan, animal rights activist Farid Mansurov expressed outrage at the barbaric treatment of street animals in all cities of Azerbaijan. He recalled the too "soft and ineffective Law" - Article 274 of the Administrative Code of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which punishes cruelty to animals with only a fine of 500 manats. With that said, he recalled the international ban on shooting stray dogs, which Azerbaijan has joined within the framework of the European Convention of 2007.
