Baku/21.06.23/Turan: During the dispersal of the protest action in the village of Soyudlu, about 10 local residents were injured, six more people were detained. This was reported to Turan by a local resident Surayya Aliyeva.
According to her, the protest action was held against the construction of an artificial reservoir to drain waste from chemical treatment during the extraction of gold ore at the Gadabay deposit.

She noted that the reservoir previously built for this purpose has already been filled and a new artificial lake is being built on the pasture lands of the villagers.

The woman stressed that the construction of ponds, where acidic waters flow, negatively affects the environment and people's health. However, their appeals to government agencies were in vain.

According to her, the police violently dispersed the action, using force even against women. Aliyev noted that the injured residents received medical assistance from the ambulance teams that arrived in the village. -03В06-*   *   *

Ministry of Internal Affairs is investigating the fact that the police used tear gas in the face of a protester in Gadabay/UPDATED/

Baku/21.06.23/Turan: In the village of Soyudlu, Gadabay region, on the afternoon of June 20, a group of people carried out illegal interference in the construction of an artificial lake, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

“These persons, despite repeated warnings, explanatory conversations, gathered in the indicated territory. Deliberately disobeying legal requirements, they caused bodily injury to several workers with blunt objects and tried to resist the police. As a result of the measures taken, the participants of the illegal action were removed from the territory,” the press release says further.

As for the video footage of the use of tear gas by a police officer against one of the women, a group of employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs was sent to the Gadabay region and they will conduct an internal investigation into this fact, the department stressed. Depending on the results of the investigation, this issue will be given a legal assessment, the press release concludes.

The message does not indicate the reasons for the protest of citizens.

According to information from social networks, the protest action was held in connection with the fears of citizens of the runoff into the reservoir of waste containing harmful substances from the development of a gold deposit located near the village.

Protest action in Gadabey region

Baku/20.06.23/Turan:On June 20, residents of the Soyudli village of Gadabay region held a protest rally in connection with the seizure of land plots of the local population by large officials.

The police dispersed the rally by using tear gas, according to local sources.

In turn, the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs told the Turan news agency that a group of residents of  the village of Soyudlu interfere the construction of an artificial reservoir on June 20 in the afternoon.

"After a preventive conversation of police officers with persons who do not comply with the law, they were removed from the territory. An investigation is underway," the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said. ---06B---
