Emin Huseynov: Mehman Did Not Stop Hunger Strike and Intends to Continue It for Long
Baku / 07.01.18 / Turan: Statements by representatives of state bodies that blogger Mehman Huseynov has stopped his hunger strike and is taking water and food does not correspond to reality.
Turan was told by his brother, the director of the Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS), Emin Huseynov.
According to him, M. Huseynov continues the hunger strike launched on December 26 in protest against the new fabricated criminal case against him.
During this time, a parcel with food for the blogger was accepted only once, and he gave it to his cellmates.
"Mehman asked to no longer bring him food, in order to avoid speculations that he eats something. He needs milk and sour milk. This was recommended to us by doctors with whom we consulted abroad. The fact is that Mehman's varicose veins and the dry hunger strike, which he carried out until December 30, caused him an acute shortage of calcium. Dairy products are needed to somehow fill the lack of calcium and prevent rupture of his blood vessels. Mehman also asked to bring him either pomegranate or orange water to maintain the body"s immunity in order to keep the hunger strike for a long time. He does not trust prison doctors and injections given by them," E.Huseynov said.
He noted that their father on Tuesday or Wednesday should meet with his son in jail, if he does not encounter obstacles.
According to E. Huseynov, the IRFS called upon international organizations, and above all the International Committee of the Red Cross, to urgently visit M. Huseynov in Baku Detention Center No. 1. -06D--
