Emin Sagiyev Stops Hunger Strike on 25th Day
Baku / 11.09.20 / Turan: Emin Sagiyev, recognized by human rights activists as a political prisoner, ended his hunger strike on September 11 on the 25th day. This decision was made by Sagiyev after today's meeting with his lawyer Bahruz Bayramov.
Bayramov told Turan that Sagiyev suspended the action after his urgent requests.
According to the lawyer, on September 12, he will submit an additional cassation appeal to the Plenum of the Supreme Court. In addition, the lawyer and members of the Sagiyev family will appeal to the pardon commission.
As a result of the hunger strike, Sagiyev was greatly weakened, lost weight and can hardly speak. The lawyer noted that Sagiyev suspended the action temporarily and if he is not released in the near future, he will resume his hunger strike.
Recall that Sagiyev was arrested in November 2017, and in 2018 he was sentenced to 7 years on charges of drug trafficking on a large scale. However, local human rights activists are convinced that he was punished for the journalistic activities by his brother-in-law, political emigrant Turkel Azerturk. The latter has been living in Europe for several years and has sharply criticized the Azerbaijani authorities on the Azerbaijan Saaty Internet resource.
Sagiyev went on a hunger strike after the country's Supreme Court on August 18 dismissed his appeal against the verdict. -03В06-
