European Court Starts Communication in Ganimat Zaheed Case
Baku / 04.04.18Turan: The European Court of Human Rights started the communication on the complaint of the editor of the newspaper Azadlig, Ganimat Zaheed, who was sentenced to 4 years in prison on a trumped-up charge of hooliganism in 2007.
According to his lawyer Fariz Namazli, the complaint refers to violations of Articles 6.1 and 6.3 of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The European Court started communication with the government of Azerbaijan on this case, having requested a number of documents.
Living now in emigration in France, Zaheed was granted asylum in connection with threats against his family.
Prior to that, he spent four years in prison on charges of hooliganism against a criminal, who was a police agent. Sevgilada Guliyeva, who complained about him, was repeatedly convicted herself for drug trafficking two years later. -03B-
