Family of Assassinated Journalist Appealed to Ilham Aliyev

The family of the writer and journalist Rafig Taghi appealed to President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the investigation of the fact of his murder.

"This is a particularly serious crime that has not been solved," the statement says.

The relatives believe that the Prosecutor General's Office has no interest in the disclosure of the murder and asked the President to give an order to conduct a serious investigation and keep it under control.

In November 2011, an unknown attacker assaulted the journalist in front of his house and inflicted him knife wounds. A few days later Taghi severely wounded died in hospital. He linked the attack to his criticism of the political leadership of Iran. This took place on November 10, 2011 after the article by Taghi titled "Iran and the inevitability of globalization" was published.

In 2006 Taghi was arrested for publishing an article "Europe and us." At the time, Iranian Ayatollah Fazil Lankarani issued a fatwa (sanction) on the murder of Taghi.

After spending a year in prison, Taghi was pardoned by President Aliyev.

Our attempts to get comments in the prosecutor's office on the investigation of the Taghi case failed. -16D04-
