Fatima Movlanly Distributes Video Message (updated)
Baku / 05.04.18 / Turan: A civil activist Fatima Movlanly, who disappeared on March 31, distributed a video message on her Facebook page on the evening of April 5. https://web.facebook.com/100010250138975/videos/600769133608086/?id=100010250138975&hc_ref=ARRATKOdE0WqCgQXeyP5btaq9_143UAjcgvHbhyhJ9BNbMG9BZiWb17_zYUOpQleXhw
She said she had stayed with a friend because of health problems in the last 4-5 days, and had turned off her phone. "I only called my mother once and asked her to spread the information so that they would not worry about me," Movlanly said.
She considers the various messages spread about her in social networks unreasonable. "Everything could be written about me and I could be accused of anything, but the allegations of my debauchery, or that I was ostensibly detained somewhere, are not true. I was not detained anywhere, I'm at home, and it's all right. I'm sorry to have disturbed you," Movlanly said. -0-

The campaign starts: "Release Fatima Movlanly!"
Baku / 05.04.18 / Turan: Campaign calling "Release Fatima Movlanly" was announced on April 5 following the meeting of representatives of civil society of Azerbaijan. Public activist Fatima Movlanly was kidnapped after the opposition rally on March 31. Earlier, the girl was detained and taken to the 4th police station of Binagadi district of Baku for putting up opposition posters on the eve of the rally. She, like other activists, was threatened, demanding to stop political actions, not to participate in the action "Know the dictator." At the April 5 meeting, it was decided to form a special group on the Fatima Mohlana case, as well as to send appeals to law enforcement bodies and the Presidential Administration calling for its release.
Participants in the meeting, without exception, believe that the authorities are responsible for the abduction of Movlanli. Earlier, in various years, facts of kidnapping of activists were recorded, which were then found in police stations. Coordination of the work of the group was assumed by the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners.
Co-Coordinator of the Center, Ogtay Gulaliyev, also stated that it is necessary to focus attention on the situation of those political prisoners who are in the most difficult conditions. This initiative was supported by all present.
Let's notice, that after 5 days from the moment of the disappearance of the activist law enforcement bodies keep a stubborn silence, and do not react to what happened. -0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
