Former IBA chief is still in the punishment cell, sister
Baku / 02.10.17 / Turan: Amina Hajiyeva, the sister of the former chief of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, Jahangir Hajiyev, was unable to meet with her brother in prison No. 3 on October 2, although on Mondays he has had a day with his relatives.
Amina Hajiyeva said that after her insistent demands to explain the reasons for the refusal of the meeting, the jail administration confirmed for the first time that the former banker was imprisoned in the punishment cell. However, she was not explained the reason for the punishment. Hajiyeva herself believes that her brother was imprisoned in the penalty cell because of the publication in the media of his interview.
"My brother spoke in the press, after haqqin.az wrote that he appropriated 15 billion. My brother stated that this is not true. He spoke in his defense," A.Hajiyeva said.
According to her, the jail employees refused to take food and warm clothes for Hajiyev.
"Okay, they did not accepted food, Jahangir is on a hunger strike, but why do not they take warm clothes, he is there in summer clothes?" she said.
According to relatives, J. Hajiyev was imprisoned on September 26. Since then, lawyers have not been allowed to see him. The penitentiary service has not yet commented on the statements of lawyers and Hajiyev's sister.
In 2015, the IBA revealed major financial irregularities and capital outflows abroad. The former head of the IBA Jahangir Hajiyev was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment, but did not plead guilty.
