The conditions of detention of representatives of the LGBT community are inadequate, a lawyer
Baku / 02.10.17 / Turan: Media reports about mass detentions in Baku of representatives of sexual minorities correspond to the truth, lawyer Samed Rahimli said in an interview with Turan. According to the initial information from the relatives of the detainees, some of them were arrested administratively, and some were fined. "According to our information, about 45 people were arrested from 10 to 30 days. A total of 11 people are fined. However, this is incomplete information," Rahimli noted.
Being asked who and how protects their rights, Rahimli said that some have lawyers, the rights of others are protected by a number of organizations. However, some detainees do not have legal assistance. All of them are accused of not fulfilling the lawful requirements of the police. Being asked where the detainees are held, Rahimli said that they are held in various places - in the pre-trial detention center and the district police stations.
The conditions of their detention are poor and too close. Especially in places of temporary detention in police stations, noted the lawyer. "These places are designed for 48-hour detention, and the arrested are held there for 20-30 days," Rahimli said. According to him, the detainees were taken to the venerology center, and diseases were detected in 2-3 people, Rahimli said. He also noted that a group of lawyers filed appeals to the courts about illegal arrests, but it is not yet known when they will be considered.
According to unofficial data, dozens of representatives of sex-minorities were detained by the police in recent weeks in Baku. The police explained this by complaints of residents on the behavior of minorities.-03B-
