Fuad Ahmedli's Health Sharply Worsened in Prison
Baku /06.10.19 / Turan: The state of health of the activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Fuad Ahmedli in prison has sharply worsened. He was urgently hospitalized in a medical institution of the Prison Service.
As the activist's father Zafar Ahmedov told Turan, his son underwent lung surgery before his arrest. Containment in a confined space negatively affects his state of health. Another problem is acute kidney pain. On October 4, when Ahmedov visited his son in the prison, the young man was very ill. Ahmedov asked for a medical examination of his son. However, already on October 5, the activist was urgently hospitalized in the medical institution of the Prison Service.
Fuad Ahmedli was arrested in August 2016 on charges of "violating the law on operative-search activity" and disseminating personal information of users of Azerfon mobile phones. In addition, he was charged with abuse of authority. He was sentenced to 4 years in prison on June 16, 2017. The Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court later upheld the verdict.
Human rights activists have recognized Ahmedli as a political prisoner.
In May this year, the Surakhani District Court rejected Ahmedli"s appeal for release on parole in connection with the serving of more than half the sentence. Higher authorities upheld this decision.
Ten months remain until the end of the activist's sentence. -06B-
