"Günay Bank" OJSC officially declared bankrupt
Baku/20.05.23/Turan: "Günay Bank" OJSC, whose license was revoked by the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA) on 16 May, has been officially declared bankrupt.
This decision was made by the Baku Commercial Court.
As expected, the Deposit Insurance Fund of Azerbaijan was appointed liquidator of the bank.
The CBA revoked the license of "Günay Bank" due to the fact that the total capital of the bank is less than the prescribed requirement of AZN 50 million.
However, a number of independent experts have questioned the legality of the withdrawal of the bank's license. In particular, it was pointed out that there was no quorum in the CBA board. In the meanwhile, the decisions of this body are legitimate with the participation of four board members, currently this structure has only three members.
Also, it is pointed out that the bank has no problems with fulfilment of its obligations. And the deficit in the share capital of the bank was going to be raised at the forthcoming shareholders' meeting, the date of which has already been set.
As viewed by independent experts, the liquidation of "Günay Bank" should be regarded in the context of the policy of eliminating small banks and the further strengthening of a few large banks. -06В-
