Head of McDonalds-Azerbaijan Appealed to Ilham Aliyev

Baku Appeal Court has sacrificed justice to the order of an officer, said Magsud Mirzoyev, father of the deceased 16-year-old Sanan Mirzoyev.

Magsud Mirzoev is CEO of McDonalds-Azerbaijan. He appealed to President Ilham Aliyev in connection with the "unreasonable" mitigation of punishment for the guilty party, Ilham Askerli, the son of the head of the Sabail District Executive Power Asif Askerov.

Recall that Sanan Mirzoyev was killed in a car accident on 29 September 2014. The accident occurred on the highway Zig-Airport when Mercedes driven by Ilham Askerli ran into a truck Howo. In the Mercedes were Sanan Mirzoyev and Parvin Fatullayev (driver, who gave control of the car to Ilham).Sanan Mirzayev died in hospital, and Fatullayev and Askerli were injured.

On May 12, 2015 the Baku Court of Grave Crimes convicted Ilham Askerli and the trucker Ahliman Suleymanov and sentenced them to 5.5 and 6 years in prison.

On June 29, the Court of Appeal chaired by Vagif Mursagulov reduced the sentence on Ilham Askerli to 3 years. At the same time they changed the preventive measure of imprisonment by living in a colony settlement.

According to M. Mirzoyev, the appellate court decision undermines the credibility of the justice and calls into question the principle of equality of all before the law. According to him, the head of the Sabail district Asif Askerov, using his official position, made leniency to his son.

Currently I. Askerli is placed in a medical institution of the Ministry of Justice with a view to full exemption from punishment.

M. Mirzoyev asks the President as the guarantor of the Constitution to take control of this matter and prevent the exemption of the culprit from punishment. -06D-
