Hearings in Baku on Seyudlu residents' problems
Baku/27.06.23/Turan: Public hearings organized by the Seyudlu Working Group (SWG) were held in Baku on June 27.
According to the co-founder of the SWG Afiyaddin Mammadov, the purpose of the event was to send a message to the residents of Seyudlu that their problems are in the focus of attention of civil society and efforts are being made to provide them with legal assistance.
"On the other hand, the public should know that the issue with the problems of Seyudlu residents has not been resolved, the village is still under blockade, residents are threatened to avoid communication with journalists and activists. People need legal assistance," Mammadov said.
It was pointed out that the village is blocked by the police and it is impossible to go there and monitor the situation on the spot, it is also impossible to get more detailed information about the number of people detained there.
On the other hand, local residents are isolated and also deprived of access to legal aid, appeal against the arrests of their loved ones.
The participants discussed ways out of the current situation and rapid response to similar incidents in the future.
It is to be recalled that the SWG was established on June 21 to provide legal assistance to those detained and arrested during the events in Seyudlu. In addition to civil society activists, the group includes several jurists and lawyers.
It should be recalled that on June 20, the residents of Seyudlu held a protest action stating that the environment was polluted by a nearby gold mining enterprise. The police violently dispersed the action, 10 people were injured.
At the same time, five people were detained and arrested administratively for 20 days. Another elderly resident was fined 1,500 manats.
Later, several more people were detained. However, law enforcement agencies do not provide information on the number of detainees. -21B06-
