Heavy rain flooded streets and basements of the capital
Heavy rain in Baku and Absheron peninsula triggered mudslides in the streets of the capital last night. Because of the hilly topography of the city, flows from the top rushed down at mountain rivers.
As a result , the water level in some places reached half a meter. Oilers Avenue, Azerneft Square, Bulbul Avenue, Bailov settlement and Nobel Avenue were virtually impassable for cars. And Babak Avenue under the bridge near the car market could not even be passed by trucks.
Mudslides washed asphalt away in many places. Also flooded were underpasses.
In the low-lying part of the city , in some places one-storey houses and cellars were flooded.
In this case, any activity of public services to combat the disaster was not noticed. Neither pumps nor other technique was noticed in the streets, so the downpour caught the people.
Once again the inadequacy of the municipal economy was shown.
The streets are not operated by water collectors.
For unclear reasons, the cable channel KATV1 was disconnected.
After the retreat of the water road underpasses have been under a thick layer of mud.
In the morning the urban services were busy cleaning the main streets.
The Ministry of Environment did not pre-warn about large-scale downpour either.
On the contrary , according to weather forecasts , on the night of 23 to 24 September in Baku and Absheron they predicted "intermittent rain in several places, with the termination in the morning ."
On September 24 afternoon the weather will be changeable and cloudy, mainly without rain.
Government bodies so far have spread no information on the impact of the rainfall, as if nothing happened.
Last time a similar downpour in Baku was on 23-24 April, and as always , there were no measures to prepare urban infrastructure to such vagaries of weather. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
