Heavy rains caused mudflows and demolished two more bridges in Azerbaijan
Baku/18.09.23/Turan: Heavy rains in Azerbaijan caused mudslides and floods in a number of regions. In some places, there was a need to evacuate the population. According to the Executive Authorities of the Astara district, as a result of the Astarachay River flood, about 200 individual houses were flooded.
A mudflow washed away an iron-concrete bridge 25 m long and 10 m wide in the village of Vago, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Azerbaijan reported.
A bridge with a length of 10 and a width of 4 m was also destroyed over the Penserchai River in the village of Siyakesh. About 40 families have been evacuated to safe places. Rains continue in the region. Houses and household plots were also flooded in some villages of the Lankaran region.
The forces of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are taking measures to pump water from flooded yards in the Astara and Lankaran regions.
Traffic has been restored on the bridge in the village of Gazangul in the Zagatala district, the Azerbaijani State Agency of Highways reported.

A fire has erupted at the Experimental and Testing Production of the Scientific Research Institute of SOCAR (the state oil company) in the Surakhani district of Baku, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported. "Thanks to the urgent and necessary measures taken by the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the spread of the fire to neighboring areas, including nearby residential buildings, has been prevented," the statement reads.
