Ministry of Internal Affairs: Taleh Hasmamedov is arrested
Baku / 29.12.18 / Turan: Human rights activist Taleh Hasmamedov, who disappeared on December 27, was detained by the police, reported on Saturday by the Interior Ministry. According to a report published on the website of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Hasmamedov was detained on December 27. "As a result of operational search activities carried out on the basis of the information received, Taleh Hasmamedov, a resident of Goychay region, was detained in a cafe on Mirjalal street in the Nasimi district of Baku in exchange for disclosing compromising information about him," reads the message. In fact, a criminal case was initiated under the Article 182 (extortion by threats) of the Criminal Code. However, his wife, Fatima Movsum, said that her husband left the house two days ago, saying that he would return in a few minutes and disappeared. From 14:00 on December 27, calls to his mobile phone are out of reach. Family members appealed to the Ministry of Internal Affairs 102 hotline to clarify his fate, but in vain. She believes that her husband is being persecuted for political reasons for his human rights activities and criticism of the authorities.
Human rights activist Ogtay Gulalyev believes that the disappearance of Hasmamedov may be related to a report on the situation in prisons released by the CCPP on December 26. The son of Zafar Ahmedov speaking at this event, PFPA activist Fuad Ahmedli, was put in a punishment cell after the event. Gulaliyev also pointed out that Hasmamedov recently published critical statuses on facebook. He said that Hasmamedov had previously been convicted twice for human rights work. -06D-
