Ikram Rahimov challenged the composition of the court
Baku/21.08.19/Turan: On August 21, a hearing was held in the Baku Court of Appeal under the chair of Judge Rizvan Safarov in the case of the editor of realliq.info website Ikram Rahimov, who is on a hunger strike in jail.
At the beginning of the hearing, Rahimov said that at the preliminary hearing on August 7, the court did not approve the defense"s motion for a re-trial. A petition for re-examination of the audio recording of Rahimov"s conversations with the victims was also rejected.
All these materials, he said, were falsified. For this reason, Rahimov began a hunger strike on August 7, demanding an end to the "illegal" criminal prosecution. Declaring no confidence in the court, Rahimov challenged the judiciary.
In this regard, the court hearings were postponed to August 28.
* Rahimov was sentenced to 5.5 years in prison on charges of extortion by threats, but he did not plead guilty. Rahimov believes that he was convicted of exposing the illegal actions of high-ranking government officials.-03B-
