Jamil Hasanli called Interior Ministry's version of Nazim Beidemirli's detention absurd
Baku/05.07.23/Turan: The detention of former Azerbaijani MP Nazim Beidemirli on suspicion of extortion is absolutely absurd. There is no doubt that he was detained because of his principled position in connection with the Seyudlu riots, and in particular, his statements about the validity of the demands of local residents. This opinion was expressed on his facebook page by Jamil Hasanli, chairman of the National Council of Democratic Forces.
"Nazim Beydemirli, is one of few intellectuals from Gedabey region, who after the start of protests in Seyudlu, on June 22 in Kamran Mahmudov's program "Çətin sual" of Turan agency with all frankness spoke about the threats of the gold mine to the population, flora and fauna.
He revealed the dangerous consequences of the artificial lake created to discharge the cyanide produced at the plant. He spoke about the history of the plant," said Hasanli.
Expressing his attitude to the Interior Ministry's report that Beydemirli was "involved in the investigation on the basis of a citizen's appeal", Hasanli writes: "Is every citizen involved in the investigation taken to the 'Bandotdel' (Main Department for Combating Organised Crime of the Interior Ministry)?
Hasanli finds police claims that Beidemirli "blackmailed" someone ridiculous.
"Nazim Beidemirli is highly cultured, morally upright man, an intellectual, a patriotic representative of the intelligentsia. We, together with him worked together for five years in the Milli Majlis. He is a person who puts the interests of his country and nation above everything else, and who cares about his constituents and the entire nation," Hasanli said.
He said that the Interior Ministry's reports "denigrating" Beidemirli with "dirty deeds" are meant to discredit him, to rob him of public support.
As a businessman, academic economist and a man of active citizenship, Beidemirli sharply criticised the system of governance in Azerbaijan, pointing out that its creator was the former head of the Presidential administration, Ramiz Mehdiyev
"It is an ugly system based on 'regionalism', parochialism, cronyism, bribery and corruption. These elements are ongoing and will continue until there is a transparent system. Whatever the Interior Ministry says, it is clear that Beidemirli's detention is connected with the Sayudlu protests," Hasanli says. -06D-
