Journalist imprisoned in solitary confinement
Baku/16.05.20/Turan: Coronavirus infections were recorded in jail N 17 and a quarantine regime has been declared in the facility for several days, azadliq.info reports. According to the same source, even lawyers are not allowed to meet with defendants in the jail.
Elchin Ismayilli, an employee of the Azadlig newspaper, was also detained for five days in a punishment cell under the pretext of allegedly not wearing a mask.
In fact, the reason for punishing Ismayilli was his criticism of the actions of the jail leadership in connection with the incorrect application of measures to combat the coronavirus.
It has not yet been possible to get comments from the Prison Service. An activist of the Muslim Unity Movement Ahsan Nuruzade and a number of those convicted in the Ganja case are also serving sentences in jail N17.
All of them are recognized as political prisoners by human rights defenders. — 06D--
