Journalists demand to release their colleague
More than 50 journalists in Azerbaijan have signed a statement in support of Parviz Hashimli, demanding his immediate release. The statement authors call on international organizations to monitor this issue, and reminded that his lawyer Elchin Sadigov was twice rejected a meeting with his client, which is a clear violation.
Journalists believe that Parviz Hashimli is subjected to torture in the Ministry of National Security, for this reason he is not allowed to meet with a lawyer .
At the same time, Ilaha Hashimova, the spouse of Parviz Hashimly, appealed to President Ilham Aliyev and his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva, to the Ombudswoman Office, the chairman of the Committee against Torture Elchin Behbudov with a request to facilitate the early release of her husband.
Parviz Hashimli was arrested on September 17 on charges of smuggling weapons and illegal possession, purchase, and sale of weapons.
Earlier, he told his relatives and friends that the employees of the Ministry of Security have threatened him , demanding to make a statement against the leader of the opposition Popular Front Party, Ali Kerimli. However Hashimli refused and reported about the pressure of the U.S. Embassy. Some time later he was arrested. -16D04-
