Khadija Ismayilova appealed to the court to eliminate the ban on leaving the country
Baku / 22.09.17 / Turan: Investigative journalist Khadija Ismayilova appealed to the Binagadi district court of Baku on September 22 to grant her the opportunity to temporarily leave Azerbaijan to participate in an international event, or altogether lift the ban on leaving the country due to conditional punishment. "The Riga branch of the Stockholm School of Economics invited me to conduct 23-day courses on investigative journalism. I appealed to the court to allow me to leave the country for a certain period of time or completely cancel the judicial decision to ban my departure from Azerbaijan," said Ismayilova. According to her, even if the court completely lifts the ban on leaving the country, it is not going to leave Azerbaijan forever. Ismayilova was arrested in December 2014. In September 2015, the court sentenced the journalist to 7.5 years in prison on economic charges. Ismayilova did not admit blame. International organizations have recognized her as a political prisoner. In May 2016, the Supreme Court replaced the real term by 3.5 years conditional with a probation period of five years. After that, she repeatedly appealed to the courts for temporary departure from the country in connection with her professional activities, but she received refusals.-03B06--
