"Line of Defense" about the situation with human rights for a month
Baku/18.04.22/Turan: On April 18, the human rights organization "Protection Line" presented a report on the situation in this area in the country for the month of March.
The executive director of the structure, Rufat Safarov, singled out during this period the case of the death of a minor Narmin Guliyeva in Tovuz.
In particular, he noted the shortcomings and violations, both during the investigation and the trial of the accused Ilkin Suleymanov. He made it clear that the investigation did not establish the real killer and conducted an investigation formally.
Safarov also touched upon the case of police pressure on the opposition movement Democracy 18 and the closure of their office. Another fact of violation of rights was the arrest of an activist of the Popular Front Party Shahin Hajiyev.
Safarov highlighted the facts of the deportation of political emigrants from Germany, who are then arrested on drug trafficking charges. In particular, he mentioned the case of Samir Ashurov and four previous political emigrants deported and convicted in Azerbaijan.
Safarov highlighted the case of Ali Aliyev, leader of the Citizens and Development Party. "For the first time in Azerbaijan, the leader of a political party has been convicted for his opinion," Rufat Safarov stressed.
The Lines of Defense report is regularly published on the organization's Facebook account.-0-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
