Media Review - December 5, 2018
The Azerbaijani cultural heritage and its protection on a global scale, a look at the Law on General Education, and the Azerbaijani-Russian relations are the leading themes of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes that the Azerbaijani group dance Yally has been included in the UNESCO list for the protection of intangible assets. This decision was taken at the UNESCO XIII session on intangible property held in the capital of Mauritius, Port Louis.
It was also decided to include Heritage of Dada Gorgud, Dastan Culture, Folk Tales and Music in the representative list of intangible values.
This nomination was presented jointly by Azerbaijan, Turkey and Kazakhstan. The list of urgent protection of the intangible heritage of UNESCO already contains 13 samples of the cultural heritage of Azerbaijan.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat writes about the draft law "On General Education", which is being discussed in the parliamentary committee on science and education. Particularly discussed is the issue of admission to university for applicants who graduated from school with a gold medal. It is proposed that they enter the university, passing the exam in only one subject.
Most applicants enroll in universities not at the expense of the knowledge gained at school, but at the expense of training with tutors. The article notes that the most ideal system of university entrance examinations for Azerbaijan is a test one.
The website Azadliq.info writes about Azerbaijani-Russian relations.
The author of the article claims that Russia has always treated Azerbaijan differently than Armenia. It was Russia that created the Armenian state in the Caucasus and is its patron and strategic ally. By punishing Azerbaijan with the hands of Armenia through the Karabakh conflict, Russia thus binds Azerbaijan to itself. Russia wants Azerbaijan"s entry into the CSTO in order to put it in military dependence. The bureaucratic elite of Azerbaijan is too tied to Russia. -0-----
