Media Review for January 28, 2020
The completion of the TAP gas pipeline, the reasons for the increase in the number of divorces, and the problems of residents of Mirza Davud Street are the topics of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the completion of the laying of the last segment of the Southern Gas Corridor (3,500 km), which is TAP. This guarantees the supply of Azerbaijani gas to Europe this year.
The length of the TAP is 878 km, of which 550 km pass through the territory of Greece, 210 km - Albania, 105 km across the bottom of the Adriatic Sea, and the last few km on the territory of Italy.
The TAP project was launched in 2016. If we talk about equity participation in the project, then BP owns 20%, SOCAR - 20%, Snam S.p.A. - 20%, Fluxys - 19%, Enagas - 16%, and Axpo - 5%. The capacity of the gas pipeline per year will be 10 billion cubic meters of gas. Investments in the project amounted to 4.5 billion euros.
The website Oxu.az writes about the increase in the number of divorces, discussing this issue with the psychologist Ayten Alekperova. According to her, the reason for the collapse of many families is social networks and unemployment. Although the latter, according to the psychologist, there should not be a reason for divorce, since you can find any job if you wish, even if not by profession. Negative is also the unwillingness of fathers to pay child support. These alimonies are still deducted by the court in favor of the children. But children are involved in this process, which creates additional psychological problems for them. According to statistics, in 2019 the number of divorces increased. In 2018, the number of divorces amounted to 13,655.
The website Bizimyol-info.az writes about the problems of residents of Mirza Davud Street in the Khatai district of the capital. Residents use the short road to access Nobel Avenue. Concrete stairs were laid out there 15 years ago. Given that a school is located nearby, it is clear how many people use it. However, the staircase is almost unsuitable for use, because it has collapsed. The municipality is inactive and does not solve the problem.

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
