The situation with COVID-19 in Azerbaijan, the attempt of the French Senate to recognize the "NKR", and the prospects for Russian-Turkish cooperation in the South Caucasus are topics of today's media.
The Azerbaijan newspaper continues to write about the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and the situation that has developed in this regard. According to updated data, 60 million people are infected in the world, of which 1 400 427 people have died.
There have not yet been any positive changes in the situation with the pandemic in Azerbaijan, and 53.5% of the entire cases are in Baku. The author continues to insist on the observance of all the established rules, noting that the reason for the spread of the infection is civil irresponsibility. The daily growth of the number of infected people is more than two thousand, and sometimes more than three thousand.
The website Redaktor.az comments on the intention of the French Senate to submit for discussion a resolution on the recognition of the so-called NKR. The resolution is presented by five opposition groups and the likelihood of its adoption is high, the author writes.
The resolution violates international law regarding the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs. The position taken by France is open disrespect for the UN Charter. The implementation of such a resolution of the Senate is not binding for the government and is advisory in nature.
However, France should not forget about its problem with Corsica, so it could be costly to recognize NK. The author recalls how President Ilham Aliyev advised Macron to create an Armenian republic in Marseilles, where there are more Armenians than in Nagorno-Karabakh.
The website Mətbuat.az assesses the prospects for cooperation between Russian and Turkish peacekeepers in the South Caucasus. The author quotes the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov about Turkey's role in the conflict and in the region as a whole. Political analysts believe that in the near future, cooperation between Azerbaijan, Turkey and Russia will expand even more. The end of the Karabakh war has great strategic and political prospects. In addition, a new configuration of the region will be formed. The joining of Turkey and Russia to the peacekeeping mission should not bother other countries.
