Media Review March 9, 2020

Volunteer movement development, falling oil prices, and water supply problems are topics of today's media

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the development of the volunteer movement in the country. 2020 is declared the year of volunteers. In recent years, student volunteers in Azerbaijan have been actively participating in all international events held in the country.

Currently, the Volunteer Student Program unites over 2300 volunteers from 26 universities and 18 specialized secondary educational institutions.

The website Müsavat.com writes that in the coming months, oil may fall to $ 40, which threatens a serious economic crisis.

The website Ovqat.com discusses the problem of sharing water resources in the Samur River Basin. Russia intends to revise the agreement, as Dagestan suffers from a lack of water.

Based on the agreement of August 28, 2011 between Russia and Azerbaijan, the border line on the right bank of the Samur River runs right in the middle, so that the parties can use the water equally. In the South Caucasus, Azerbaijan is the country with the smallest fresh water supply - 10%, while in Georgia it is 62%, and in Armenia - 28%. In water reserves, Azerbaijan ranks 4th in the post-Soviet space after Turkmenistan, Moldova, and Uzbekistan.

Azerbaijan receives 74% of water from Kura, Araz and Samur, that is, from foreign sources.
