Mehdi Ibrahimov is on hunger strike for the fifth day
Baku / 14.08.20 / Turan: Arrested after the rally on July 15, Mehdi Ibrahimov has been on a hunger strike for the fifth day, his brother Turan Ibrahim told Turan.
M. Ibrahimov is charged under the Article 139-1.1 (violation of the quarantine regime, entailing the spread of the disease or the threat of it) of the Criminal Code. The court arrested him for three months.
M. Ibrahimov is being held in a specialized institution N 3 of the Penitentiary Service for patients with tuberculosis. He demands a meeting with a lawyer and release from custody.
“For more than three weeks Mehdi has not been allowed meetings with either a lawyer or relatives. He only once was able to talk to his mother on the phone for less than a minute. He is on a hunger strike for the fifth day, protesting against the illegal arrest, ”said the brother.
Lawyer Agul Laiidj told Turan that on August 13 he again could not get a meeting with his client. “I was told that Ibrahimov is ill and meetings with him are prohibited. This is the second refusal to meet with him, ”the lawyer said.
The head of the public relations department of the Penitentiary Service Mehman Sadigov told Turan that none of the prisoners is starving.
However, today the press service of the ombudsman's office said that its representatives met with Mehdi Ibrahimov, who announced his refusal to eat due to disagreement with the course of the investigation.
Mehdi Ibrahimov is the son of a member of the PFPA Presidium, Mamed Ibrahimov, who was also arrested on charges of organizing riots. Attempt to seize power and other crimes.-06D-
