Baku / 02.03.19 / Turan: Blogger Mehman Huseynov, having been released after 2 years of imprisonment, immediately went to the action of commemoration of the journalist Elmar Huseynov, who was killed at the threshold of his apartment 14 years ago.
The action was attended by journalists and political figures.
M. Huseynov recalled that two years ago he was arrested the next day after speaking at the grave of Elmar Huseynov.
"I will continue the way of free journalism again, like Elmar," said the blogger.
Director of Turan News Agency Mehman Aliyev noted that the murder of Elmar was intended to silence free journalism. However, this goal was not achieved, despite the fact that the organizers and customers of the journalist"s murder were never found.
The head of the Center for National Strategic Thought, Isa Gambar, believes the authorities are guilty of not disclosing the journalist"s murder.
The head of the Musavat party, Arif Hajili, criticized the authorities' policy for restricting media freedom and politically motivated arrests, noting the importance of freeing all journalists and bloggers.
* Elmar Huseynov was the head of a number of media projects in Azerbaijan, which were distinguished by vivid political content and criticism of the political system, government corruption, and human rights violations.
On March 2, 2005, he was shot dead at the threshold of his apartment. 14 years have passed since the murder, but the customers and perpetrators of the murder have not been found. The authorities of Azerbaijan made public the names of those suspected of the murder, but no measures were taken to bring them from Georgia to Azerbaijan. -06D--
