Mehman Huseynov to Hold Press Conference
Baku / 04.03.19 / Turan: A well-known blogger Mehman Huseynov, who was released after two years in prison, will hold a press conference on March 5.
Local and foreign journalists accredited in Azerbaijan, civil society activists, and representatives of foreign diplomatic missions are invited to the meeting. The press conference will be translated into English.
The blogger intends to clarify the events during the last two months of his imprisonment.
The press conference will be held on March 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the address: Baku, Gara-Chukhur settlement, Farman Kerimzadeh Street 33/1.
Recall that Mehman Huseynov was convicted on March 3, 2017 on charges of defamation of the police. The reason for this was his statement on torture in the Nasimi police.
Amnesty International recognized him as a "prisoner of conscience". In late December, a new accusation was brought against him of beating a prison officer. In protest against the falsification, Huseynov went on a dry hunger strike. The threat of a new arrest of the blogger provoked protests from the local public and criticism abroad. The European Parliament called on the Azerbaijani authorities to release the blogger and other political prisoners. After that, the prosecutor's office stopped the criminal case against the blogger. -06D--

Amid the bustling scenes of this year’s COP29 climate conference, a protest against whaling and deep-sea mining, organized by a group calling itself the FINS Initiative, drew significant attention from delegates and observers. However, questions have arisen about the legitimacy of the group, as an internet search yields little evidence of its existence beyond scattered mentions.
