Money from the sale of real estate by Jahangir Hajiyev can be returned to Azerbaijan
London / 10/12/18 / Turan: The British press continues to discuss the case of the property of Jahangir Hajiyev, the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, convicted in Azerbaijan for 15 years.
Two mansions and part of the golf club in London have been registered as the property of false companies, and managed by the banker's wife, Zamira Hajiyeva. The UK National Crime Agency (NCA) intends to appeal to the court to confiscate this property, BBC NCA head Donald Thun said.
"Initially, the proceeds will become the property of Britain, and their further fate is the subject of discussions with the British government about the possible repatriation of money to the country of origin," said Thun.
However, if the property is seized and sold under the hammer, this does not make the former owner guilty. But if the authorities consider that the owner of the property tried to deceive them, then a lawsuit can be filed, threatening with fines and jail, BBC observer notes.
Jahangir Hajiyev registered London ownership as the property of offshore companies. At trial, his wife stated that her husband had bought mansions and land worth more than $ 28 million with earned money, although his official salary does not allow it.
In 2015, Hajiyev and several of his subordinates were arrested and convicted on charges of embezzling more than $ 200 million from the International Bank. -02D-
