New Human Rights Organization Established
Baku / 18.06.20/ Turan: A new non-governmental organization, the Baku Club of Human Rights (BCHR), has been created in Azerbaijan. It was established by human rights activist Rasul Jafarov and lawyer Javad Javadov.
The goal of the NGO, in which the admission of new members continues, is to promote a more effective enforcement of human rights in Azerbaijan.
The new organization is worth its work on the basis of the principles of transparency and openness and has already submitted documents for registration with the Ministry of Justice.
The founders believe that the organization will be registered in accordance with the norms of the Constitution and laws, as well as taking into account freedom of association guaranteed by the European Convention of Human Rights.
The BCHR intends to base its activities in interaction and communication with relevant state bodies, and thus contribute to solving existing human rights problems.
Rasul Jafarov is a well-known human rights activist. In 2014, he was arrested on trumped-up charges of economic crimes and sentenced to 6.5 years in prison. In March 2016, he was pardoned. Then the European Court found his arrest unlawful. In April 2020, the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan acquitted him in fulfillment of the decision of the Strasbourg court.
Javad Javadov is a lawyer specializing in the protection of human rights. Defended many political prisoners and other citizens affected by police violence. —06d-
