New office of the Resource Center for Democracy and NGOs opens in Nakhchivan
Opening ceremony of the new office of the public association "Resource Center for Democracy and NGOs" opened in Baku on 23 October in Nakhchivan. Several local NGOs, as well as correspondent office of Turan news agency will operate in this building. Representatives of the American IREX organization attended the opening ceremony.
Resource Center is headed by the winner of the Norwegian Rafto Prize, Malahat Nasibova. The Center acts has been functioning in Nakhchivan for about 10 years, and because of pressure from local authorities, it had to change repeatedly their offices.
The opening of the new office will be essential to support the democratic forces and the independent press, and will allow local people to bring their concerns to the international community and the authorities in Baku. -02D-

During search and operational activities, on January 30 at 11:20, 16.4 kg of drugs were discovered and seized in the area of the "Geytapa" border post, located on the Iran-Azerbaijan border. According to the Azerbaijan Border Service, this prevented an attempt to smuggle into Azerbaijan 11.3 kg of marijuana, 5.1 kg of opium, and 1,990 methadone M-40 pills from Iran.
