On the 27th day of the hunger strike, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was examined by Professor Adil Geybulla
Baku/04.02.23/Turan: Based on the collective appeal of the lawyers of public activist Bakhtiyar Hajiyev, on February 4, on the 27th day of his hunger strike, doctor, professor Adil Geybulla visited him in the Baku Detention Center.
He was in the isolation ward for six hours and, together with the doctors of the Main Medical Directorate of the Ministry of Justice, examined Hajiyev.
“Bakhtiyar Hajiyev has been on a hunger strike for 27 days and his health corresponds to this. He lost weight. He has dizziness, headaches, stomach pains, there are difficulties in walking, general weakness. However, he is sociable, his mind is clear,” Geybulla told Turan.
According to the doctor, Hajiyev was given the necessary recommendations. "Doctors of the Main Medical Directorate of the Ministry of Justice are taking appropriate measures and keeping his health under control. If I am allowed, I will visit and examine Bakhtiyar Hajiyev again,” Geybulla said.
When asked if Hajiyev could be hospitalized in a Medical Institution of the Penitentiary Service, the professor replied that "for now, such an issue is not on the agenda."
“He has a clear mind. The necessary measures will be carried out in the sanitary and medical unit of the pre-trial detention center for the time being,” Geybulla added.
He pointed to a decrease in blood sugar and low blood pressure in Hajiyev.
Asked to comment on the concerns of Hajiyev’s lawyers and relatives about the activist’s coma, Geybulla said:
“One of the reasons a starving person falls into a coma is a sharp drop in blood sugar levels. In this sense, lawyers and relatives are right. There is a tendency to lower blood sugar levels, blood clots. Any person on the 3rd, 4th weeks of a hunger strike can fall into a coma as a result of a decrease in blood sugar.
According to him, the most dangerous is coma against the background of adynamia (weakening of the body).
“That is, metabolic disorders deeply affect the body and cause irreversible processes. But, so far, Bakhtiyar Hajiyev does not have such a situation,” Geybulla stressed.
* Bakhtiyar Hajiyev was detained on December 9 on charges of hooliganism and contempt of court. On the same day, the Khatai District Court arrested him for 1 month and 20 days.
On December 15, Hajiyev went on a hunger strike demanding his release. On December 28, he ended his hunger strike after persistent calls from the public and family members. However, on January 9, he resumed his hunger strike after the appeal court refused to release him and continues to this day.
On January 21, the court extended Hajiyev's arrest for another 1 month. -03B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
