Baku/22.07.21/Turan:  A compilation of the newspaper "Azerbaijan" (1918-1920), a government body of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, published with the support of the ADA University. The newspaper was published in the Arabic alphabet and in the published collection of facsimiles; it is accompanied by transliteration (translation) from the Arabic alphabet into the modern Azerbaijani Latin alphabet.

This special issue presents transliteration of ten selected issues of the Azerbaijani newspaper. When transliterating the selected issues, the language and spelling features of the newspaper were preserved, and the original layout of the newspaper was observed. Transliterated copies are submitted together with copies of the originals. The selection of issues included in the special issue varied in the number and layout of the newspaper.

In his address to the readers, the rector of ADA Hafiz Pashayev notes that the materials in the “Azerbaijan” newspaper reflect the direct history of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The pages of the newspaper reflect the decisions of the Azerbaijani government, speeches of parliament members, details of events in the capital and regions, various analyzes and memories. Materials about Karabakh and Zangezur, which are of particular importance today, will be of interest to readers.

In addition, on the pages of the newspaper, the relations of the Republic of Azerbaijan with foreign countries, the atmosphere of that time are reflected in detail. In general, the transliteration of this newspaper will open a new page in the history of the Republic of Azerbaijan and will become an important stimulus for future research.

The first four issues were published in Ganja, the next - in Baku. From September 15, 1918 to April 28, 1920, about 450 issues of the "Azerbaijan" newspaper were published.
