Only two out of 10 newborns in Azerbaijan are fed by mother's milk
Baku/31.07.18/Turan: The fact that 78 million (every third of the five newborns in the world) during the first hour after the birth do not receive mother's milk raises the risk of death and illness among them, stated the report of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Most of these children appear in low- and middle-income countries. Eating mother's milk would save their lives, according to a press release from the UNICEF office in Azerbaijan. In Azerbaijan, just under 20% of newborns are fed by mother's milk in the first hour.
Azerbaijan is a small group of countries with such indicators. At the same time, in Azerbaijan out of every 10 newborns, only two in the first hour after the birth of the mother's milk. Even a few hours of delayed feeding of mother's milk can have dangerous consequences for the health of babies.
"There is an urgent need to increase efforts to support mothers by the family, health workers, employers and the government. It is necessary that the mothers could ensure the beginning of the life of their children at a decent level," said the head of the UNICEF Azerbaijan representation Edward Karwardin. -06D-
