Opposition Activists Intend to Picket City Hall
Baku /10.03.19 / Turan: If the Baku City Hall prohibits a picket in front of the city administration on October 8, the opposition will hold an action anyway. This was stated to Turan by the head of the youth organization of the Popular Front Party Emil Salim.
He noted that the picket was scheduled for 12:00 in order to protest against restrictions on freedom of assembly and the refusal of the Mayor"s office to authorize an opposition rally in the city.
The city authorities have not yet responded to the notice of the picket. At the same time, a representative of the metropolitan police said today that an attempt to hold an unauthorized action would be thwarted.
"For 7 months now freedom of assembly has been violated and we are protesting. If they want to stop the action, let them do it. Any violent action will strike only the image of the authorities and once again confirm the repressive nature of the regime, "Salim said. -03B06-
