Baku/04.02.21/Turan: The Public Council of Talysh of Azerbaijan (PCTA) issued a statement in connection with the recent protest at Lankaran State University (LSU). “The current state of the education system, both in secondary schools and universities in Azerbaijan, is known to every citizen of the country. Additional challenges with virtual learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic have worsened the situation.

It is the moral duty of those who work in the field of education, and every citizen of Azerbaijan who thinks about the future, to discuss these problems, propose solutions, and make constructive proposals,” the document says.

In this sense, PCTA considers the initiative of the "Student Power Center" organization commendable, which protest against demands to pay for tuition for the year in advance, despite the economic hardships caused by the pandemic.

On February 1, 2021, law enforcement officers of the Lankaran region detained students Orkhan Iskenderli, Samir Akhundzade, Ahmed Mammadli, who came to the university to submit an application to the university administration.

Unfortunately, some LSU teachers saw in the students' desire to introduce the teaching of the Talysh language and the training of teachers, a connection with some "separatist forces".

“The chronicle of the victorious 44-day war in Karabakh has once again proved that today's Azerbaijani youth are patriotic and courageous.

The Public Council of Talysh of Azerbaijan welcomes the patriotic step of the Student Power Center of Leningrad State University, appreciates all the initiatives taken to eliminate existing deficiencies in universities and calls on the public to support students, the statement said.

On February 1, the police detained three students of Lankaran State University while announcing a statement in front of the university and accused them of violating the quarantine regime. However, the next day the court acquitted them. –06D-
