PPFA activist alleges torture at police station
Baku/17.11.22/Turan: A member of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA), Rovshan Mammadov, was tortured at the police station after being detained at a protest on November 11. He told this to his lawyer Neymat Kerimli in Binagadi administrative detention centre.
Kerimli told the Turan news agency that the meeting was held in violation of the lawyer's confidentiality of communication with his client. At first he was offered to communicate through a glass partition. "After I protested we were given a face-to-face meeting. But a police officer was present nearby and this is a violation of the law," Kerimli said.
Mammadov spoke of torture at the Sabail district police station 8 in Baku, following his detention.
In this regard, the lawyer submitted a complaint to the prosecutor's office today.
According to the lawyer, Mammadov was charged with violations of Article 510 (disorderly conduct) and 535.1 (failure to obey the police) of the Administrative Code, and sentenced to 30 days in detention.
The lawyer pointed out that Mammadov's accusation that he broke the window of a police car was invalid.
According to him, the video shot by journalists also shows that Mammadov did not break the window of the police car.
Elshad Hajiyev, head of the Interior Ministry's press service department, denied allegations of police torture against Mammadov. -06В-
