Pre-election Mission of PACE Meets with Natig Jafarli
The pre-election mission of the PACE headed by the Spanish deputy Jordi Hugla today met with the executive secretary of the movement REAL Natig Jafarli.
During the one-hour meeting, the guests were interested in the pre-election situation in the country. According to Jafarli, a pre-election atmosphere is not observed in Azerbaijan, while people do not believe in fair elections and do not want to vote.
With regard to the participation of REAL, the movement put forward 17 candidates and intends to support eight other applicants.
The final decision about participation in the elections will depend on the stage of registration of candidates and the election campaign.
"If several of our candidates will be unreasonably denied registration and face obstacles for conducting pre-election campaign meetings with voters, we will reconsider the decision to participate in the elections," said Jafarli.
The PACE delegation invited Jafarli to Strasbourg. When he said that his departure from the country was banned for a year without any judgment, the guests were surprised.
The PACE delegation was also interested in the health of the convicted leader of REAL, Ilgar Mamedov. In the past two weeks, he was not allowed to call home again. The lawyer has to visit Ilgar Mamedov once in every two days, said Jafarli.
Today in the afternoon the PACE delegation will meet with a group of human rights activists. -06B-
