Presentation of IRFS New Site
Institute for Reporters Freedom and Safety (IRFS) on Wednesday held a presentation of its new website, irfs.org.
As the director of the IRFS, Emin Huseynov said, the former version of the site was developed in 2007 on the Joomla platform, which, at that time was quite technologically advanced.
The new site, containing information in Azerbaijani and English, was developed on WordPress, the favorite among NGOs activity, including from the point of view of safety.
IFEX (International Network to Support Freedom of Expression) and IMS (International Media Support provide the financial support.
IMS director of regional programs, Gulnara Akhundova, said the main idea for the site is to create opportunities for public campaigns, to protect the freedom of the press, and receive news about the state of freedom of expression in Azerbaijan.
The new site will have a section on IRFS financial statements, and materials from the old site.
In 2013, IRFS will transfer two other sites to the new platform, obyektiv.tv and http://www.nakhchivan.org.az.
During the presentation, it was noted that after the Global Internet Governance Forum held in Baku, under the auspices of the UN, problems remain. In addition to the arrests of Internet dissidents, there are legal and technical problems. The most unfortunate fact is support from Azerbaijan along with China, Russia, Iran and Arab countries, on decisions by the International Telecommunication Union,ITU, which effectively allows states to influence the distribution of Internet content and legitimizes state control over the network. -06C-
