Prosecutor’s Office Suddenly Begins to Respond to Domestic Violence
Baku /26.10.19 / Turan: Baku police and the prosecutor's office made a statement in connection with information on social networks about the beating of a woman by her husband, as a result of which the woman was taken to hospital.
A joint press release from the Baku Police Department and the capital’s prosecutor’s office said that Tanryverdieva Manzar Rovshan Gizi, born in 1983, was hospitalized on October 25 with piercing and cutting wounds. A criminal case was filed under Article 126.1 (intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm) of the Criminal Code.
The witnesses were identified and questioned, and relevant examinations were assigned. On suspicion of stabbing the woman because of a family conflict, her husband Rafail Tanryverdiev was detained. During interrogation with the participation of a lawyer, he admitted bodily harm to his wife.
Recall that in recent years there have been a lot of high-profile crimes of domestic violence in Azerbaijan. Previously, law enforcement agencies did not show a prompt public reaction to reports of such crimes.
On October 20, female activists organized a protest rally against domestic violence in Baku. They demanded that the authorities protect women from domestic violence. However, the police dispersed the rally, detaining the organizers. —06D—
