Relatives of political prisoner Jeyhun Salakhov concerned about his fate
Baku/22.04.23/Turan: Family members of Jeyhun Salakhov, convicted in the Ganja case, are concerned about his fate due to the lack of phone calls and information from him over the past week.
"Jeyhun called every Sunday and Wednesday. The last time he called was last Sunday and since then there has been no information from him," Salahov's wife Kamala Mammadova told Turan.
She said that after Salakhov did not call home on Wednesday the following days the woman sought in vain to clarify the fate of her husband in the penitentiary service and Ombudsman office, colony No 7 where he is held.
Mammadova believes that her husband may have been placed in a punishment cell, or he may have had health problems.
Mammadova also noted that as a law-abiding person her husband was following the rules of the penitentiary institution.
It was not possible to obtain comments from the prison service.
Recall that Salakhov was sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment for the 2018 assassination attempt on the then head of Ganja, Elmar Veliyev.
Yunis Safarov, accused of wounding Veliyev, received a life sentence. Although Safarov admitted committing the crime alone and the other defendants had nothing to do with the case, nine others were sentenced to 18 - 20 years of imprisonment.
Human rights activists have recognised all the defendants in the "Ganja case", except for Safarov, as political prisoners.-06В-
