Baku / 09.10.19 / Turan: On September 10, Shiites in Azerbaijan and in other countries celebrate mourning in memory of Hussein, the grandson of the prophet Muhammad and the son of Imam Ali.
The most popular ceremonies traditionally take place in the village of Nardaran at 30 km from the capital, as well as in the mosques of Meshedi Dadash and Taza Pir.
In Ashura, many shops and other facilities do not work until noon. On this day, fun and entertainment is considered a sin. Many believers organize commemorations on the street and in public places in memory of Imam Hussein and his associates, who were killed near the city of Karbala (now in Iraq).
On the same day, donations of blood are held in mosques of Azerbaijan as an alternative to the bloody acts of self-flagellation carried out before. Everyone is involved in donating blood. Today, together with the chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikh Allahshukur Pashazadeh, the head of the State Committee for Work with Religious Organizations Mubariz Gurbanly, deputies of the Milli Majlis, as well as leaders of other religious faiths took part in the blood donation action. Blood donation is organized throughout the country. In Baku, this is happening in 13 mosques and healthcare facilities. -02D-
