Sister of Ex-head of IBA Appeals to Prosecutor General
Baku / 26.11.18 / Turan: Amina Hajiyeva again appealed to the Prosecutor General Zakir Garalov in connection with the intolerable conditions of her brother, former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan, Jahangir Hajiyev.
Another problem is the question of her meeting with her brother. Thus, in Prison No. 13, where Hajiyev is being held, she was not given a meeting with him from October 2017 to May 2018. After his transfer to the Baku pretrial detention center from September 15 to this day, meetings are not allowed again, although the investigation of the case has long been completed.
"I was the only one who met with Hajiyev as family member. And the ban on meeting with me is not just a restriction, but torture against Hajiyev. It cannot be called otherwise. Jahangir is not given newspapers or books, and they delay the issuance of drugs. We have addressed you repeatedly, but there is no answer. We went to court, our applications were not considered, and they were lost. Mr. Prosecutor General, after all, the prisoner has rights, doesn"t he? Mr. Prosecutor General, bringing to your notice information about the intolerable conditions of detention of Jahangir Hajiyev, I ask you to put an end to these tortures," A. Hajiyeva calls. -0-
Recall that Jahangir Hajiyev was sentenced in 2016 to 15 years in prison on charges of embezzlement, misappropriation and abuse of office. The investigation believes that he embezzled or misappropriated more than $ 100 million. At the same time, unofficial sources say that funds several times higher than this figure were embezzled from the IBA.
In October, British authorities seized the property of Zamira Hajiyeva, the ex-banker"s wife, in London. The mansion and the golf club of the Hajiyevs were estimated at 30 million dollars. The reason for the arrest was the lack of evidence that the money to purchase this property had a legal basis. -0-
