Supreme Court Releases Journalist Aziz Orujov
Baku / 05.04.18 / Turan: The Supreme Court chaired by Ali Seyfaliyev decided to release the journalist Aziz Orujov, CEO of the Internet TV channel Canal 13, who was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment.
As the lawyer Javad Javadov told Turan, the court dismissed Orujov's charge under Article 192.2.2 (illegal entrepreneurship) considering that there were no crimes in the journalist's acts.
And the charge under Article 308.2 (abuse of official powers, entailing grave consequences) was re-qualified for a softer article - 308.1.
At the same time, the term of his punishment was reduced to 3 years of imprisonment, and immediately the court applied article 70 of the Criminal Code - on the application of a suspended sentence with a probation period of three years and ordered the release of the journalist from custody.
According to the lawyer, within the next few hours the journalist will be released. The day before Orujov was placed in the clinic of Prison No. 14.
Recall that Aziz Orujov was arrested in May 2017 and convicted on December 15, 2017. He did not plead guilty.
