Suspect in vandalism at Zabrat cemetery detained
Baku/21.04.23/Turan: Police officers detained a suspect in committing an act of vandalism at a cemetery in the Sabunchi district of Baku.
This is stated in a joint statement issued on Thursday by the Prosecutor General's Office and the Interior Ministry of the Republic.
The detainee was 34-year-old Seymour Dakhilov. "As a result of intensive measures taken by the staff of the Prosecutor's Office and the Interior Ministry, grounds for suspicion were revealed that Seymour Dakhilov on the night of April 16-17, having come to the cemetery, damaged grave objects, destroyed tombstones and slabs," the message says.
The attacker explained his actions by saying that he was carrying out repairs at the cemetery, but they refused to pay for them and he "got angry" destroyed and damaged the tombstones.
"Seymour Dakhilov has been brought in as an accused under Article 245 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan ("Abuse of the grave")," the message continues.
On April 18, videos of destroyed tombstones appeared on social networks, filmed at a cemetery in the Baku village of Zabrat, where Russians are mostly buried. -06B-
