Tbilisi court dismisses protest against release of human rights activist from Azerbaijan
Baku/01.07.19/Turan: The Tbilisi Court of Appeal upheld the decision of the Marneuli District Court of June 19 on the release on bail of 3,000 Lari the Azerbaijani human rights activist Avtandil Mammadov. Thus, the court rejected the protest of the prosecutor's office of Georgia against the release of Mammadov.
The activist was arrested on June 17 at the request of Azerbaijan, who accuses him of fraud. However, the real reason for the persecution is the political activity of Mammadov, who dealt with the facts of human rights violations in the northern region of Azerbaijan.
Thanks to the support of local human rights activists, the extradition of Mammadov was prevented.
Avtandil Mammadov has turned to the UN Commissariat for Refugees with a request to transport him from Georgia to another country. -03B-
