Cabinet Decides Fate of Molokan House: Concert of Electronic Music to Be Held There July 5
Baku / 02.07.19 / Turan: The head of the Salaam Cinema youth movement Ilkin Huseynov received from the Cabinet of Ministers a letter stating that the government is considering the fate of the Molokan House, which is being protected by youth activists from demolition. The building is located in Baku at the intersection of 10 Suleiman Rustam Street and Suleiman Rahimov Street.
"The National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan has presented its expert opinion on the historical and architectural value of the building to the Cabinet, and the Cabinet of Ministers said in a letter that the issue of the Molokan House is being considered," said I. Huseynov.
According to the unofficial information he has, the building will be listed as a protected object of local importance. Consequently, the privatization of the building by a private person is impossible, as is the sale of this object.
Salaam Cinema requires giving the building the status of an object protected by the state. Youth activists renting the building refused to leave it this spring, when the actual owner decided to demolish it.
At present, the doors of the Molokan House are locked, and the entrance is through the courtyard.
Activists of Salaam Cinema are repairing the building, preparing for an electronic music concert, which will be held on July 5. On this day, Azerbaijani musicians I Toshiba and Farhad Farzali living in Europe will perform in the hall on the top floor. -0-
