The center for the protection of political prisoners demands to investigate the facts of torture
Baku/17.04.19/Turan: State bodies, including the Prosecutor General"s Office, should seriously respond to cases of unlawful arrest, pressure and cruel torture, and take appropriate measures. This is stated in a statement by the Center for the Protection of Political Prisoners, which also demands that the facts of unfair trials and the release of all political prisoners be stopped.
Recently, facts have emerged that testify to the continuation of the repressive policies of the government, the persecution and pressure on social and political activists.
"The authorities are talking about carrying out profound reforms in the judicial-legal system, but on the other hand they are doing the opposite. The events of July 10, 2018 in Ganja, and trials and torture in connection with war crimes in Terter, repression against social activists led to serious public discontent," the statement said.
The participation of members of the Center in the Sabunchu District Court in connection with the events in Ganja and other trials showed that the arrested were subjected to the most cruel torture and inhuman treatment.
"The trial on the facts of killings and mass arrests of military personnel in Terter in 2017 is accompanied by numerous violations. During court sessions behind closed doors, testimony obtained under torture is taken as a basis, and the prosecution does not provide any evidence. Nothing is being done to investigate the horrendous and cruel torture suffered by the military," the statement said. -03D-
