The CMB appealed to the faithful on the occasion of the Muharram month beginning
Baku/10.08.21/Turan: The Shiite Muslims mourning month of Muharram has begun today.
On this occasion, the Council of Qadis of the Caucasus Muslim Board (CMB) appealed to the believers of Azerbaijan urging them to hold events in keeping with requirements of the special quarantine regime.
The Qadi Council and the authorized representatives of the CMB recommend that this year, during the Muharram period, ceremonies in mosques and shrines should be held in accordance with quarantine rules, the appeal says.
It ought to be noted that Muharram is the first month of the Muslim calendar, one of the four forbidden months mentioned in the Koran.
It should be added that Ashura falls on the 10th day of the month. On this day in 680, a small detachment of Imam Hussein fell in an unequal battle near the city of Karbala against superior Umayyad detachments. Since then, supporters of Imam Ali (the founder of Shiism) have celebrated Ashura as a general mourning.
In Azerbaijan, it is not customary to hold lavish celebrations, weddings, engagements in the month of Muharram. —06D-
